About Maxwell K. Weiss

Max is a litigator who handles complex disputes from investigation through resolution. Over the past decade, he has represented plaintiffs and defendants in class actions, mass arbitrations, multidistrict litigation, and commercial disputes in state and federal courts across the country.

Max also helps individuals and businesses navigate complex regulatory, privacy, employment, and data-security challenges.

Trained at New York’s Leading Firms

Before launching his practice, Max spent more than five years as a litigator at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, one of New York City’s preeminent litigation shops. While at Patterson, among other matters, Max worked on sprawling anti-counterfeiting actions against hundreds of defendants, conducting court-ordered civil seizures and freezing hundreds of millions of dollars in illicit proceeds. He also conducted investigations on behalf of major professional sports leagues and television studios.

Max began his career at the New York City headquarters of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where he worked on securities class actions and other litigation, investigations, and cybersecurity matters. In law school, Max was an honors intern in the Trial Unit of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement.

A View from the Bench

From 2018 to 2020, Max clerked for Senior U.S. District Judge William J. Martini of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, America’s busiest district. During law school, he was a judicial intern to United States Magistrate Judge Alan Kay (Ret.) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Scholarship and Writing

Max graduated summa cum laude from The George Washington University Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as Senior Projects Editor of The George Washington Law Review. His Law Review essay on the constitutionality of SEC administrative law judges anticipated the Supreme Court’s later holding on the issue. He writes regularly on litigation for Law360 and The Bankruptcy Strategist, collected on the Publications & Media page.
